My wife and I recently visited Glasgow for the first time and immediately fell in love with the place: its people, its history and the pride felt in a city which championed the Industrial Revolution and provide the UK with its forst European Cup winning team.

We took the city tour bus and were lucky enough to be able to sit 'up top' on a rare occasion where the sun shone in No Mean City. Having exhausted the glorious People's Palace we were in need of a light beverage and some light relief too (we had also visited Kelvingrove and the transport museum). We stumbled upon The Whistlin Kirk pub ideally located across from one of the city's largest park and soon found ourselves in the heart of Glasgow. It was here that we really fell in love with all things Glaswegian. The local 'punters' (as they referred to themselves) made us too feel like 'wan ae Jock Tamson's bairns' and entertained us all afternoon. Of course, we struggled to understand a word they said, but their punchy delivery hit the spot, as did the guinness!! (It's without doubt the best pint of guinness I've tasted outside of Ireland)

Should you ever find yourself in the local area be sure to visit John behind the bar - he'll draw you a map, tell you a tale or two, educate you on the area's history, and even give you a keyring bearing the pub's name. Not to be missed..
