"Hit or Miss?"

I've eaten here twice. I like the way the place is set up, with lots of different areas to sit and eat in. First time I went was a weekday afternoon last autumn, had the place almost to ourselves, was really lovely, and the food was SO much better than usual pub grub. Even my side salad was wild rocket and fresh julienne beetroot with a lovely dressing, most unexpected. The staff were really nice , but one waitress seemed more interested in flirting with a chef than taking orders going by the time the food took to come and the whoops and hilarity heard clearly from the kitchen!

The second visit was on a Sunday about 6.30pm. The place was very busy. My food (ham hock) was good but my companion's vegetarian option was absolutely awful, looked welded and melted and old, and was a VERY small portion (think it was some slice of couscous ..thing)which was supposed to come with rosemary roasted baby potatoes but instead came with a few marble sized wrinkled boiled potatoes. It was actually embarrassing and I don't know how they had the nerve to hand that plate to a customer. I complained about the potatoes but didnt say anything else, and we DID get an apology from the waitress who brought us another portion of this time fresh potatoes which were much better.

In summary, the staff seem very nice, the place is nice to sit and eat then chat, not poserish and not full of teenagers, but the food is obviously a tad hit or miss. Still way better food than any brewer's fayre type stuff, for the same price. .
