"Left high and dry"

A review of Colbeg Kennels & Cattery by Lesley written on Saturday 6th of August 2016

On the 21st July 2016 I turned up at this establishment expecting to leave my dogs in the hands of this kennel. I was leaving for a two week holiday in Portugal the following day. To my absolute dismay I was turned away. I had previously arranged a sitter for my dogs. My Westie aged 12, Pomeranian aged 6, Miniature Yorkie aged 4 and my little cross breed aged 2. When due to unfortunate circumstances the person could no longer do it as you can imagine this happening one week before we were due to leave I was beside myself. I could not believe my luck when my daughter discovered that there was accommodation here for all 4 of my dogs.

Never at any point when dealing with anyone at this kennel was any of the protocol made clear to me and never having boarded my dogs before I asked what jags were required and was told kennel cough and boosters. My dogs all had their boosters injections at different times during 2014 and 2015 so I decided to have them all done to be safe costing me £200. The vet assured me this would cover them for their stay in kennels. On arrival as the vet had put on their card they were to return in 2-4 weeks for another booster I was unceremoniously told under no circumstances could she accommodate my dogs.

Whilst I'm aware my dogs boosters were not all done in 2015 and she was within her rights to turn me away I would like to point out the following -

When she eventually called me on the 20th after me leaving messages several days before to find out what time I should drop the dogs off, only then did she ask me what breeds they were after already agreeing to board them. I was told she had no small dog biscuits and to bring my own and arrival on said day of refusal when she was face with 4 hot panting dogs after 1hr 30min car journey they were not even offered water knowing I had to take them back. She was rude, unhelpful and unsympathetic but with hindsight after meeting her I'm extremely glad I did not leave her in charge of my precious dogs..
