"Question about tomb from 1839"

A review of The Necropolis by Jan Zahle written on Monday 18th of August 2008

A Mr. MacDonald obtained in 1839 from the Danish sculptor Hermann Ernst Freund an imposing grave monument with reliefs in marble on all four sides, Farewell, Re-Union, Genius of Death with torch and Nemesis writing. Drawings are preserved in the library of The Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. But nothing is known about its destiny.

I presume that it was destined for the Glasgow Necropolis.

I shall be much obliged for any information about the monument. Do you have any possibility to check if it was erected in the Necropolis? And in case: what has happened to it, does it still exist?

Sincerely yours Jan Zahle, dr.phil.

The Thorvaldsen Museum, Copenhagen .
