"50 years later"

A review of Hillfoot Cafe by Calum written on Sunday 6th of April 2008

I was back in Glasgow for a family wedding, about 12 years ago, and on the eve of the wedding I had the inspiration to go to the Hillfoot Cafe to buy double nuggets for the assembled crowd. I walked into a much smaller cafe than I remembered from more than 50 years before, when Vincent, the owner, would let our crowd of teenagers sit all evening over a 4p cup of coffee. One each, that is.I was startled to see the lady behind the counter and said, "Madelaine, for heavens sake, are you still here?" "Yes I am", she said. The pre teen daughter of Vincent, who used to bring us our coffee, was by now the owner, and still there. That was the only time I ever spent over one hundred pounds in the Hillfoot cafe (ice cream for everyone and loads of sweeties to take back to Canada)..
