I was born in St Francis in 1956 and fell pregnant in 1974. I was unmarried and still at school. My parents suggested going to St Francis for the antenatal care and birth. The Dr O'Reilly looked after me but it was the wonderful sisters who delivered my baby. I remember with great fondness Sister Margaret who helped me reconcile that my baby was going for adoption, Sisters Bernadine and Anunciatta who delivered her. I was never shown anything but love and acceptance by these wonderful women at a time when births outside marriage were not common as they are today. My parents paid for a private room for me and I have very happy memories of my stay in the St Clare room..
