"Since when did driving licences stop becoming proof of ID"

A review of G101 Off Sales by Sean Leith written on Tuesday 10th of April 2007

I entered the G101 offsales at boydstone road to purchase alcohol on a friday evening. the young female who was behind the counter was about to serve me alcohol when this older lady came from the back of the shop asking for proof of ID which was my Driving Licence. to my amazement she said that they don't accept driving licences, which is a legal document, as proof of ID. i was very angry at this as I had to travel to tesco's silverburn at the old pollok centre wasting half a tank of petrol and 30 minutes of my time. I tried phoning the head office at Giffnock but no one answered the phone. i wish to make a formal complaint towards the shop and would like to be kept updated by email..
