A review of Airdrie Savings Bank by Uncabob - Thursday 11th of October 2007

My first account with the ASB (Baillieston)was 1/- (Shilling) a week into a book savings account in 1951. My Father owned a local shop and one of my most trusted responsibilities as a youngster was "Going to the Bank". It was in the old building between Maxwell Street and Longlee at that time opposite Malcolm McGlaughlin's Newsagents.
I emigrated to South Africa in 1982 and continued my accounts with ASB. Mrs. A.J. Kirk was manager at the time, and this of course preceded e-mail or any of our instant messaging systems available today. That did not in any way impact on the efficiency of the bank, and "snail" mail communication had to suffice.
On retirement, I decided to return to The U.K. and with exchange controls being in place in S.A. this has been a fairly stressful experience. The procedure started under the tenure of Maria Cochrane, but by the time of my first preliminary visit, Stacey Warnock had been drafted in as temporary manager.
Today, in the hands of Stacey Warnock, I could not ask for a more friendly and efficient banking set up.
Part of this is the ASB culture, and one of my favourite tricks is to ask a friend, "What is your Bank Manager's name?". This can seldom be answered!
The other side is Stacey Warnock's efficient handling of my queries and requirements
Now that I am back in the U.K.and with modern commu nication methods, the ASB continues to satisfy my requirements.
We may not have the facility of Internet Banking but is it necessary with the "personal" touch of a small banking group.
It is nice to be a "name" and not just a "number".
I wish The Airdrie Savings Bank continued success.
