"Would you like to spend some more money?"

A review of McDonalds by Rachel written on Sunday 2nd of December 2012

This has to be the worst McDonalds in Scotland for upselling / cross-selling. I work close by at present, and I quite enjoy a McDonalds now and again. So, I thought it'd be quite nice to be able to pop in here for breakfast/lunch a couple of times a week. However, I've stopped going to this particular branch because of the persistent, annoying and clumsy attempts they make to get you to buy food you don't want and haven't asked for.

If you order a normal-sized breakfast, they ask if it was a large breakfast you meant? (tip: if I'd meant large, I'd have asked for that) And, at lunchtime if you order a normal-sized meal, they'll first ask you if you meant large (??), then will pick some random item off of the menu and ask if you wanted that as well.

I don't have the time nor the energy to waste battling greedy upselling techniques like these. So, I now buy my breakfast and lunch from one of the 1000 other places in the vicinity that don't behave this way. You'd think businesses would be smarter than to go out of their way to annoy customers like this in a tight economy.
